If you or a loved one suffered a severe infection, sepsis, wrongful death, or other injuries after being treated with recalled SteriCare saline solution, you may have the right to pursue legal action and compensation. The FDA-recalled products, manufactured by Nurse Assist and distributed under the SteriCare brand, have been linked to dangerous bacterial infections – some leading to catastrophic health complications or even death.
Sterile Saline Solution Recall Lawsuit
A recall of certain SteriCare saline solution products – and subsequent lawsuits – occurred after contaminated saline solutions were found to harbor bacteria. On the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) SteriCare recall notice page, the FDA revealed that it was “warning consumers, health care providers, and health care facilities not to use recalled saline (0.9% sodium chloride) and sterile water medical products manufactured by Nurse Assist, LLC, and sold under various brands…because the products may not be sterile.”
Nurse Assist, LLC’s voluntary recall announcement further revealed that the recall was “due to the potential for a lack of sterility assurance, which could result in a nonsterile product.” Such water-based medical products “that are nonsterile and potentially contaminated with bacteria,” according to the FDA, “could cause serious or life-threatening infections, including bloodstream, urinary tract, open wound/soft tissue, and respiratory infections.” That announcement also includes detailed product information on impacted products.
Although the recall was issued, some patients could have been harmed before the products were removed from circulation.
