If you or a loved one has become addicted to 7 ΩHMZ 7-Hydroxymitragynine kratom tablets, you may be entitled to compensation for your pain and suffering. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, “‘kratom” commonly refers to an herbal substance that can produce opioid- and stimulant-like effects,” and while kratom and kratom-based products are currently legal and accessible to many, the herbal supplement is starting to be targeted by wrongful death lawsuits. 7 ΩHMZ 7-Hydroxymitragynine kratom tablets, sometimes referred to as 7OHMZ kratom tablets, are not well understood when it comes to their impact on long-term health.
What is Kratom?
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, “‘kratom’ refers to both Mitragyna speciosa, a tree native to Southeast Asia, and to products derived from its leaves that are marketed as herbal supplements.” Its leaves include many chemical compounds (known as bioactive alkaloids) that can impact the body.
“The most well-studied compounds related to kratom are mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine,” the Institute noted. However, “much is still unknown about chemical compounds related to kratom, the short- and long-term health and safety impacts of kratom use and kratom’s potential therapeutic uses.”
7OHMZ Kratom Tablet Addiction
Unfortunately, some people have reported experiencing addiction and withdrawal symptoms after attempting to stop using kratom, with 7OHMZ kratom tablets appearing to be of particular concern.
In July 2023, a jury in Washington awarded a $2.5 million verdict in the first kratom wrongful death trial in the United States, NPR reported. In another case, a mother from Florida ordered a concentrated kratom extract off the internet and later died from what a medical examiner determined was acute kratom intoxication. In May 2023, a federal judge ordered the vendor to pay more than $4.6 million in damages to her family.
Notably, kratom and its related compounds have not been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration as safe and effective for medical use, the NIDA reported. However, the Institute noted that many individuals use it to “alleviate drug withdrawal symptoms and cravings (particularly for opioids), to alleviate pain, and to help manage mental health problems.”
How Many People Use Kratom?
An estimated 1.7 million Americans 12 and older used kratom in 2021, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health and the FDA.
The FDA “has not approved any prescription or over-the-counter drug products containing kratom or its two main chemical components, mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH-mitragynine).” Generally, the agency warns the public against the use of kratom for medical treatment.
7 ΩHMZ Kratom Addiction Lawsuits
Some people who have used kratom report stimulant-like effects such as increased energy, alertness, and rapid heart rate, as well as effects that are similar to opioids or sedatives.
While the FDA warns of “the risk of serious adverse events, including liver toxicity, seizures, and substance use disorder (SUD)” when taking kratom, even noting that, “In rare cases, deaths have been associated with kratom use, as confirmed by a medical examiner or toxicology reports,” the risk of addiction and side effects is not always adequately relayed on the products’ packaging, leading to lawsuits.
Lawsuits involving inadequate warnings about the risks associated with kratom use or the potential for serious physical and psychological dependence seek to hold responsible parties accountable for their negligence and to ensure better regulation and safety standards for kratom products in the future. If you or a loved one became addicted to 7OHMZ kratom tablets you may be entitled to compensation.
