Megadyne issued a voluntary recall in May 2024 of certain electrode products after reports of patient burn injuries in procedures where the products were used. If you or a loved one have suffered injuries due to a faulty Megadyne electrode medical device, you may be entitled to pursue legal action for compensation.
Megadyne Electrode Recall Information
According to Megadyne’s recall announcement, shared on the United States Food and Drug Administration’s website, the company issued a recall of all MEGADYNE™ MEGA SOFT™ Pediatric Patient Return Electrodes.
“Megadyne has received reports of patient burn injuries in procedures where the Mega Soft Patient Return Electrodes were used,” the announcement revealed. “A root cause investigation on the reports included testing which showed a combination of factors when present together may result in potential for thermal injuries.”
Although there were just 4 reported injuries and no reports of death associated with this product between 2018 and May 2024 cited in the May recall, and the company stopped manufacturing and distributing the medical devices, devices that have not yet expired may still be in use. “Customers who have MEGADYNE™ MEGA SOFT™ Pediatric Patient Return Electrodes should stop using them and return them,” the recall announcement warned.
However, in a previous recall meant to update the Instructions for Use and product labeling to restrict the use of Mega Soft Universal Patient Return Electrodes to patients 12 years and older, the company noted that it had received reports of patient burn injuries – including third-degree burns that required intervention – and, at that time, noted 99 reported injuries.
“Burn injuries may lead to extended hospital stay, scarring, and additional surgeries in both pediatric and adult patients. Severe burns could lead to potentially long-lasting impacts on patients especially under the age of 12 years,” the previous recall listed on the FDA’s website reported.
