Chlorpyrifos Lawsuit

Chlorpyrifos, a widely used organophosphate pesticide, has been linked to serious health risks, including neurological damage, developmental delays in children, and other long-term health complications. If you or a loved one has been harmed by exposure to chlorpyrifos, you may be entitled to compensation through a chlorpyrifos lawsuit.

What is Chlorpyrifos?

“Chlorpyrifos is an organophosphate insecticide, acaricide, and miticide used primarily to control foliage and soil-borne insect pests,” the United States Environmental Protection Agency reports, adding that it “has been used as a pesticide since 1965 in both agricultural and non-agricultural areas.”

Chlorpyrifos was commonly used in agriculture for decades, despite growing evidence of its harmful effects. Studies have shown that even low levels of exposure can cause significant harm, particularly to pregnant women and children.

In 2021, the EPA banned the use of chlorpyrifos on food crops due to its undeniable risks. However, according to Earth Justice, “Gharda Chemical International, along with over a dozen agricultural trade groups, challenged the EPA’s ban, leading to the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals partially overturning the ban in 2023.”

As of February 2025, the Oregon Department of Justice website noted that the EPA “is proposing to revoke all food tolerances for chlorpyrifos except for 11 crops.” Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield said, “I strongly encourage the EPA to align its actions with the latest scientific findings and take steps to eliminate this pesticide from our food system altogether.

But for many, the damage has already been done. Now, chlorpyrifos lawsuits aim to provide justice for those who have suffered due to exposure to it.
