Penumbra Jet 7 Catheter Lawsuit

Penumbra issued a recall for its JET 7 Xtra Flex Catheter in December 2020 due to device malfunctions resulting in severe injury or death. Now, patients and their loved ones who received one of these catheters may be entitled to compensation via a Penumbra Jet 7 catheter lawsuit.

Penumbra Jet 7 Catheter Recall

The  Penumbra JET 7 Reperfusion Catheter with Xtra Flex Technology (JET 7 Xtra Flex) was recalled in December 2020.

According to the company’s own medical device recall notification, “Penumbra is recalling the JET 7 Xtra Flex because the catheter may become susceptible to distal tip damage during use. Distal tip damage in conjunction with pressurization or contrast injection may result in potential vessel damage, and subsequent patient injury or death.”

The FDA reportedly received over 200 reports of serious issues with the device before it was finally recalled. “Excluding events related to distal tip damage, there have been a total of 11 events involving patient injury and zero (0) events involving patient death associated with JET 7 Xtra Flex,” Penumbra reported.

“Overall, Penumbra has filed 239 reports for unique events associated with death, injury, malfunction, or other events with JET 7 Xtra Flex.”

Although the notification stated that all units should be removed from inventory, for many, the damage was already done.
