Phillips Law Group is committed to regularly assisting with outreach work in the community, and that work continued through the month of August. Late in the month, our volunteers helped with Maggie’s Place and Feeding Arizona community service work, and we have plenty of opportunities coming up to assist our outreach partners more in the months to come.
Maggie’s Place – August 23
A few volunteers from Phillips Law Group helped out at the thrift store for Maggie’s Place on August 23. Normally, we help the non-profit organization at its downtown location, but this time they had our volunteers sorting clothes at the store instead.
The firm donated four totes of women’s clothing (168 outfits and 25 pairs of shoes) and volunteers helped in the back room when they were put to work at the thrift store. Olivia Aguilar, a Pre-Litigation Paralegal for Phillips Law Group, said of the experience, “The space was so well organized and even had pre-planned outfits on display like a store you’d see in the mall. It was so cute!”
“We were able to explore the thrift shop after we finished helping,” she added.
Feeding Arizona – August 28
We also continued our community outreach partnership with Cloud Covered Streets this month, putting on a Feeding Arizona event to help the homeless community on August 28.
Volunteers at the event gave out 40 sandwiches, one case of water, and four jugs of juice to the unhoused community. Plus, six individuals signed up to get pampered at the nail station set up at the site! At least 17 individuals also received haircuts, which are a usual service at a Feeding Arizona/Cloud Covered Streets outreach event.
But it’s not just humans who are helped at Feeding Arizona opportunities – a lot of pets of the homeless show up, too.
“There were a considerable number of pets, more than normal,” Sharon Mews, the Community Outreach Assistant at Phillips Law Group, noted.
“I made friends with one that looked like my beagle. Another dog was actually named Roscoe which is my beagle’s name! We had fun interacting with the pets.”
It’s always our aim to make a difference in the community when we help out at or host these events, whether it’s through helping an organization that assists homeless pregnant women like Maggie’s Place or bringing food and services directly to the homeless community on the streets of Arizona. If you’re interested in volunteering at one of our upcoming events, we’d love to have you!
