Phillips Law Group, in partnership with A New Leaf, held a community karaoke party at Phoenix Bridge shelter on February 24 as a fun event for members of the homeless community and residents of the facility to enjoy alongside members of our team. The celebratory affair was one in a long line of events planned with A New Leaf to help Phillips Law give back to the community, a core value of our firm.

103 individuals were served tacos from a local vendor as part of the fun occasion, and several people signed up to perform at the community karaoke event. There were even prizes awarded to participants, including Phillips Law Group merchandise, drink containers, pampering spa sets, and more.

“The first lady to perform, she just wanted to dance,” said Sharon Mews, an Office Support Assistant and member of the Marketing and Community Outreach teams for the firm. “We played some hip-hop music, and she danced her heart out.”

“After that, several people from the homeless community and from PLG performed,” she added. “Everyone was dancing, laughing, and having a blast.”

Phillips Law Group Employees Perform

A number of Phillips Law Group employees took part in the karaoke event right alongside the homeless individuals who joined in. Sharon did a duet with one person to “I Got You Babe” by Sonny and Cher, and several other employees – including Ilce Plancarte on the Community Outreach team and Luis Reynoso from Marketing – sang individually or together to captivate the crowd.

“Everyone was having so much fun, and we ended the party with my favorite disco song ‘Stayin Alive,’” Sharon said.

The karaoke party was a huge hit and featured all genres of music from rap to disco. In addition to the performances, there was a makeup station as well as wigs, clothes, and costumes for people to dress up for the entertaining experience.

“It was fun!” Luis said of the event. He volunteered alongside other employees from several different Phillips Law Group departments, highlighting our team’s commitment to participate in community service events whenever possible.
