Volunteers from Phillips Law Group worked with A New Leaf at their Phoenix Bridge shelter to provide services to those experiencing homelessness at another successful Feeding Arizona event on January 27th. The event was one of many our team has planned for 2024, and it was a perfect start to the year for volunteers eager to give back to our community.

Feeding Arizona Continues with Essential Partners

Phillips Law Group believes giving back to the community is important, and organizing and participating in outreach events like our work with the homeless population is extremely meaningful for our staff members who get to participate. This event was certainly one that will stay with some of our volunteers for a long time.

“I have never seen a more grateful group of people,” Sharon Mews, an Office Support Assistant on the Marketing team at the firm, said after the community service opportunity.

More than 60 meals and hundreds of water bottles and juice boxes were served to our unhoused neighbors who also enjoyed manicures, makeup sessions, and more. Freshly made tacos and horchata were served to individuals who attended the event and they were also offered essential items like hoodies, Bomba socks, and sanitary pads.

Olivia Lemorrocco, Client Experience Coordinator at Phillips Law Group, helped at the makeup station and relayed one individual’s story that stuck with her days after this Feeding Arizona event.

“One lady was telling me she had a stroke a few weeks ago,” she explained. But with the help of partners like A New Leaf and the Phoenix Bridge shelter, “Now she can get to her doctor’s appointments easier.”

Olivia also revealed the woman was excited to get her makeup done because she was going to see her ex-partner later and “We made her feel good!”

The occasion also featured one individual who serenaded the crowd with her own karaoke microphone, and the haircut station proved especially popular. One volunteer told Sharon that a gentleman at the outreach event explained he had previously been too ashamed to go for job interviews because of the state of his hair.

“But now that he got his hair cut, he feels more confident,” Sharon said.

Speaking of confidence, one staff member’s teenage son has a dream of becoming a barber, so he and his friend volunteered their skills to help give haircuts as part of the volunteer opportunity. “What a great thing for two young men to be able to experience,” Olivia expressed.
