As a law firm committed to getting out in the community and making a difference, Phillips Law Group often has several community outreach events a month for staff members and friends to participate in – and sometimes, there are several a week! The numerous volunteer opportunities in May so far have kept volunteers from Phillips busy, whether they were serving lunch to veterans or helping the homeless.

Helping the Homeless with Cloud Covered Streets

As part of an ongoing partnership with Cloud Covered Streets, volunteers from Phillips assisted at an event to help the homeless on May 1.

Several individuals helped with haircuts, and a few did nails and makeup for anyone who sought out those services. Volunteers also gave out Chick-fil-A breakfasts and lemonade, which were a huge hit.

One of the things volunteers can do at these events is to help not just the people in need, but their pets too. “One lady from Cloud Covered Streets gave the dog some special treats from her car, and they also gave the dog water and dog food,” Sharon Mews, the Community Outreach Assistant at the firm, noted.

“Everyone on our team has a huge heart for others, and we have been doing these events long enough, that we know what needs to be done in order to achieve our end goal,” she said.

Birthday Bags with The Foster Alliance

Phillips Law Group and The Foster Alliance have continued their successful volunteer partnership and team up for opportunities fairly often. On May 2, a few volunteers decorated birthday bags for the kids the organization serves.

And in a show of gratitude, a member of the Foster Alliance staff came by the office in downtown Phoenix one day and dropped off cookies for everyone! The delicious treats even said “Foster Alliance” on them, and many Phillips Law Group employees got to enjoy them.

Serving the Veterans at MANA House

On May 3, a few Phillips Law Group volunteers headed over to MANA House to serve the veterans living there lunch. The veterans enjoyed chicken, salad, rice, oranges, and cookies.

“It was so fun to hear the jokes and the stories that the Veterans had, as they went through the line,” Sharon said. “One man got married that day, but because of his circumstances, the bride and groom were at separate shelters.”

Although she initially thought that was “heartbreaking,” Sharon revealed, “He was beaming, so happy! We all congratulated him.”

After lunch, the volunteers got to work putting together welcome kits for the veterans MANA House serves. Each kit included a hygiene kit, pillow, blanket, sheet set, plate and utensil set, and a towel set.

“We also learned that my favorite resident, the Walmart greeter was now in his own place and doing well,” Sharon said.

That’s the kind of success story that makes everything Phillips Law Group does in the community so rewarding. If you’d like to join us at a future outreach event, please contact us to get in touch with a member of our amazing Community Service team!
