Community outreach is a major commitment at Phillips Law Group, and almost every week, members of our team are involved in helping the community in some way. In April, many volunteers from our firm got the opportunity to help the homeless in Arizona at a few community service events with Cloud Covered Streets and A New Leaf.

Helping Our Homeless Neighbors

On April 15, Phillips Law Group and Cloud Covered Streets had a very successful event that featured several volunteers from outside of the firm assisting with any tasks necessary.

A school of barbers came in from Arizona Barber Academy to help give haircuts to the homeless being served at this particular Feeding Arizona event. There were at least 10 barbers, in addition to the barbers from Cloud Covered Streets, and in total, the volunteers provided 46 haircuts. Cloud Covered Streets was also able to offer the organization’s shower facilities so 22 individuals could get showers at the community outreach opportunity.

A couple of hairdressers were also put to work doing makeup and nails, and a handful of individuals signed up to accept that pampering as well.

Phillips Law Group volunteers brought 100 Panera Bread sandwiches and coffee, with a member of the firm’s team and several of her personal friends assisting with getting the coffee distributed.

“We gave out about 25 blessing bags, some with feminine products,” Sharon Mews, the company’s Community Outreach Assistant, noted. “The people were greatly appreciative of our help.”

Feeding Arizona Karaoke Party

On April 27, volunteers from Phillips Law Group got the chance to help the homeless in Arizona and those dealing with housing instability at a Feeding Arizona karaoke party, hosted by The Phoenix Bridge and A New Leaf.

About 75 people were served tacos from Taquizas Tacos at this Feeding Arizona event, with two staff members at the firm in charge of serving them to those in need.

Plus, for the first time, our Feeding Arizona opportunity had around 400 pieces of clothing available for the individuals to go through and choose what they liked best and articles of clothing that were most appropriate for them! A group of “helpers” assisted each person with their size and to pick out clothes or shoes.

One individual was very excited to find a sparkly pair of tennis shoes that were her size, and volunteers interacted with others to make sure they found their perfect outfit or pair of shoes, too.

“They really needed the clothes and appreciated our efforts to help them,” Sharon expressed.

Christian Conrad, the Social Media Specialist at Phillips Law Group, shared the story of one woman who – upon being told they hoped to see her again next time – replied, “I hope you don’t!” because she is determined to get herself into better circumstances very soon.

“This was such a great event for the people at this event,” Sharon said.

In addition, a few pet blessing bags were handed out for dogs – and even one cat!  Each bag had a can of food, a collapsible water bowl, a toy, treats, dog chews or cat nip, and doggy poo clean-up bags.

Finally, this Feeding Arizona had a special main event: karaoke.

“For many, this is their only outlet for singing and dancing,” Sharon pointed out. “Most of them can’t afford to go to karaoke places and sing…this fun event allows them to sing and just enjoy some entertainment.”

23 prizes were given to participants, and several members of the firm and volunteers took part in the karaoke party themselves!

“We have a great team of volunteers with a huge heart for the community!” Sharon said.
