August is shaping up to be a busy month for volunteers at Phillips Law Group! Community outreach work in August has so far included helping out a few of our long-time community service partners including Maggie’s Place, Cloud Covered Streets, and NourishPHX – and there are even more opportunities to give back still to come!

Maggie’s Place – August 9

By now, volunteers from Phillips Law Group are pros at helping Maggie’s Place out by putting together birthday bags for the kids the organization serves.

Maggie’s Place is a nonprofit that is “committed to serving mothers – upholding dignity, providing support for those experiencing barriers to thriving, and building an inclusive, trauma-informed community.” They offer many services including safe, secure housing for pregnant women and their infants, direct support services, parenting classes, and more.

By putting the time in to continue community outreach work in August with this amazing organization, volunteers from our firm help ensure that the children served by Maggie’s Place all get at least one special gift for their birthday – a personalized birthday bag.

Cloud Covered Streets and Feeding Arizona – August 12

August 12 marked an inspiring occasion for Phillips Law Group – it was the twentieth Feeding Arizona event hosted in part by our firm and volunteers.

We often work with Cloud Covered Streets on Feeding Arizona events these days, and this particular event was no different. Together, we served more than 40 individuals breakfast, and those who attended the event also got to enjoy showers, laundry, haircuts, cold juice, and more.

Volunteers gave out more than 30 blessing bags with “good deodorant,” as one recipient put it, and one dog in attendance also received dog food!

An individual who attended this Feeding Arizona noted that he doesn’t “see any other law firms out here, doing this thing.” Meanwhile, we see this outreach work as a vital part of the work we do every day as a business in the community, and as Sharon Mews, Community Outreach Assistant, noted, “Seeing the lives affected by the kindness of the volunteers and of the tangible things we provide” makes it all worthwhile.

NourishPHX – August 14

A few volunteers spent a couple of hours at NourishPHX on August 14, sorting clothes and making sure the clothes were acceptable for the population the organization serves.

Phillips Law Group donated five totes of clothes, accessories, shoes, and bedding including 45 articles of men’s clothing, 25 pairs of men’s shoes, one tote filled with blankets and bedding, and one tote of women’s accessories including hats, robes, scarves, and more.

“The staff at NourishPHX really appreciated the donation and the fact that they were already sorted, sized, and on hangers,” Sharon said.

“However, most donations from individuals come in a big bag. So our volunteers spent our time sorting, sizing, and putting away those items.”

We are proud to continue this community service work with NourishPHX, formerly ICM Food and Clothing Bank, which has a strong history of providing services for the working poor in Phoenix, Arizona. The organization’s food pantry, clothing closet, and more help those in need in the community have access to basic necessities too many of us take for granted.
