Recent reports have revealed disturbing allegations of sexual abuse at the Lower Eastern Shore Children’s Center, a Maryland juvenile detention facility meant to protect and rehabilitate vulnerable youth. Instead, children entrusted to its care were allegedly subjected to unspeakable harm by those in positions of authority. If you or a loved one suffered abuse at this facility or another Maryland juvenile detention center, you deserve justice, and our firm is here to fight for you.
“A class action lawsuit involving more than 60 plaintiffs has been filed, alleging a consistent pattern of child sexual abuse within Maryland’s juvenile detention centers,” local outlet WBOC-TV reported in February 2024.
“The lawsuit highlights incidents at the Lower Eastern Shore Children’s Center in Wicomico County, where at least three victims have reported abuse, with allegations dating back to 2005. According to the suit, correctional officers attempted to bribe victims with snacks following the abuse incidents.”
Sadly, the outlet revealed, “In one cited case, a victim claims she was raped by a correctional officer at the age of 16 or 17 in 2005 or 2006, which subsequently led to a diagnosis of a sexually transmitted disease.”
Sexual abuse in juvenile detention centers is a horrific betrayal of trust. These facilities have a legal and moral obligation to ensure the safety of the children in their care. When they fail to prevent abuse, whether through negligence, inadequate staffing, or willful disregard, they must be held accountable.
Survivors of sexual abuse trauma in juvenile detention facilities like Lower Eastern Shore Children’s Center often suffer lifelong consequences, including emotional distress, PTSD, and difficulties with trust and relationships. No settlement can undo the harm, but financial compensation can provide resources for therapy, medical care, and a path toward healing.
