Suspect Arrested After Causing Multiple Crashes

A suspect who caused several car crashes has been apprehended following a police pursuit, according to authorities. The suspect has been identified as Carlos Martinez Baldenegro, 38, of Tucson.

On Thursday, Aug. 20, at around 7:15 a.m., an Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) trooper was preparing to make a traffic stop on a driver on the eastbound side of Interstate 10 near Chandler Boulevard. While the trooper turned on his vehicle’s emergency lights for the stop, Baldenegro approached from behind driving a Ford F-150. He was traveling at a high rate of speed as he passed the trooper and continued on I-10 eastbound. The trooper followed and attempted to make a traffic stop, but Baldenegro failed to pull over, and authorities were forced to pursue him.

Troopers utilized spike strips at milepost 181, which deflated both the truck’s front tires. Baldenegro was then arrested. According to AZDPS, Baldenegro allegedly caused multiple crashes in the greater Phoenix area and nearly hit an Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) employee before the chase. He has been booked at the Pinal County Jail on charges of felony flight, reckless driving, DUI, and three counts of criminal damages. Baldenegro will also be charged in Maricopa County.
