The Phillips Law Group does not accept cases involving the generic version of Prilosec, marketed as Omeprazole.
The popular heartburn medication Nexium has been linked to an increased risk of acute interstitial nephritis, chronic kidney disease, renal/kidney failure and acute kidney injury.
Nexium, and its parent drug Prilosec, belong to a group of medications known as proton pump inhibitors (PPI) that help reduce excess acid in the stomach. A growing body of research has linked these medications to serious, often life-threatening, injuries.
Those who have developed adverse Nexium side effects after taking this drug may be entitled to compensation through a Nexium lawsuit to help cover lost wages, medical expenses, and pain and suffering. The skilled defective drug lawyers at Phillips Law Group are currently reviewing cases on behalf of those who have been injured after taking this dangerous drug. Do not hesitate to contact us today for a free, no obligation review of your claim.

Dangerous Nexium Side Effects
Nexium and other PPIs are used to decrease the amount of acid produced in the stomach in order to treat conditions such as acid reflux disease and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). There are currently nine prescription PPI medications and several over-the-counter versions available on the market.
Some of the most serious side effects associated with these medications include:
- Acute interstitial nephritis
- Chronic kidney disease
- Renal/kidney failure
- Acute kidney injury
If you or someone you love has experienced any of these Nexium side effects, you should report them to a medical professional immediately. Some can be life-threatening. You should also consult with a reputable attorney about your right to file a Nexium lawsuit seeking compensation for your pain and suffering.

Warnings Against Nexium
Since 2006, there has been a growing body of evidence linking Nexium and other proton pump inhibitors to an ever-expanding list of dangerous side effects.
Increased Risks of Kidney Disease
In April 2016, the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology published a study that revealed a 96 percent greater risk of kidney failure and a 26 percent greater risk of chronic kidney disease in people taking antacid medications, like Nexium, long-term.
The study analyzed data from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs on more than 170,000 people taking PPI drugs and found that after five years, 15 percent of PPI users had been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, compared to 11 percent or patients who took non-PPI heartburn medication.
Another study published in JAMA Internal Medicine in February 2016 showed a 20 to 50 percent increased risk for developing chronic kidney disease in patients taking Nexium and other PPI medications. It also showed that the longer the drugs were taken, the greater the risks were. The study analyzed the medical records of more than ten thousand patients taking PPI medicines over a 13-year period.
Nephritis Added to Nexium Label
In December 2014, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) added the risk of acute interstitial nephritis to the warning label for Nexium. Links between the drug and kidney inflammation were first reported in 1992. By 2004, AstraZeneca, the maker of Nexium, had reported 15 cases worldwide. That number continues to grow.
