Commitment to Community Service Continues at Phillips Law Group

Volunteers from Phillips Law Group usually have at least a few community outreach events a week these days, keeping people from the firm as well as family and friends who get involved busy as the summer months roll on. Our commitment to community service continues at Phillips, with several successful events organized in just the past few weeks alone.

A New Leaf – June 28

At the end of June, a handful of volunteers took a few hours on a Friday to interact with kids served by A New Leaf in downtown Phoenix. Both the kids and adults showed up in their swimsuits and volunteers from Phillips Law Group brought water slides and water games, as well as some delicious popsicles for the children to enjoy.

The kids, all under 8 years old, had a lot of fun beating the heat in the water. “We loved the chance to see them having fun,” Sharon Mews, the Community Outreach Assistant at our firm, said of the event.

Vitalant Blood Drive – July 3

Vitalant works with churches, businesses, and more to host blood drives and will often bring their bloodmobile to a location for several hours to make it happen. On July 3, they made a visit to the Phillips Law Group Phoenix offices from 10 am to 2 pm.

Ultimately, the drive brought in six participants and potentially saved 15 lives thanks to donations made by our staff members.

Maggie’s Place – July 5

Our firm has an ongoing commitment to community service partnership with Maggie’s Place, an organization that provides “safe, secure housing for pregnant women and their infants,” and that offers other direct support services such as case management, substance abuse counseling, and more.

On July 5, a few Phillips Law Group volunteers organized back-to-school inventory for kids that Maggie’s Place works with. After all, every child deserves nice new things going into a new school year!

Foster Alliance Back to School Events – July 8 and July 12

Speaking of supplies for the school year, Phillips Law Group is proud to be a sponsor of the Foster Alliance Back to School drive this year and has already participated in three events to support this amazing endeavor. For instance, at the end of June, several volunteers from the firm traveled to Tucson to fill backpacks with essential school supplies for the children Foster Alliance serves, and we’ve worked with the organization twice now in July, as well.

At the July 8 event, 51 families including more than 130 children received backpacks at an event in Tolleson, Arizona. Phillips Law Group provided pizza and face painting for the kids in attendance, but there was another special treat as well – the inclusion of a few exotic reptiles who were invited (with supervision!) to interact with the kids.

“They loved the snakes, but they had a spider, scorpion, and I think lizards,” Sharon revealed. “The kids coming through were able to hold a tarantula. Not me, I wasn’t going anywhere near the reptiles!”

“Kids were laughing and having fun, and their parents showed their appreciation,” she added.

Then, on July 12, another event with The Foster Alliance was held in Mesa. 24 families attended in this particular case, and Phillips Law Group brought breakfast sandwiches for the kids, as well as popcorn that Christian Conrad – the firm’s Social Media Specialist – made for everyone. Sharon noted that an attorney at the firm, Jose A. Montaño, plus Jason Flory, our Director of Client Experience, also volunteered at this event.

“The faces of those kids are worth every moment, every piece of our time,” Sharon said.

She also revealed that Collision Xperts, a local business with representatives assisting at the event, graciously provided backpacks for a few families that attended who didn’t have foster children in their care. It really does take a village, and we are so happy to have such great company when it comes to stepping up and showing a commitment to community service in the Phoenix area.

Feeding Arizona/Cloud Covered Streets – July 15

Finally, on July 15, volunteers at our firm helped at yet another amazing Feeding Arizona collaboration with Cloud Covered Streets. They served around 50 people Panera sandwiches and juice and provided manicures and haircuts to a few individuals at this event.

Sadly, a longtime friend, Darryl, from Cloud Covered Streets Phoenix was hired full-time with another company and went to the event to help one last time and to say goodbye to our volunteers who have grown to love him.

“We all had our pictures taken with him because he has always been so good to our team,” Sharon said. “He just has a heart of gold.”

All in all, it’s been a very successful few weeks for community outreach at Phillips Law Group. If you’d like to get involved with a future event – and there will be plenty of opportunities to do so! – please contact us to get in touch with our community service team today.
