George Harris Jr. Abuse Allegations

According to reports, multiple former students have come forward with allegations of sexual abuse and harassment against George Harris Jr., who served as a water polo coach at El Segundo High School. Harris joined the El Segundo Unified School District as a teacher in 1981 before joining the water polo staff at El Segundo High in 1991, according to local outlet KTLA.

The alleged abuse took place between 2002-2010. According to The Los Angeles Daily News, Harris left the school in 2009, reportedly due to an unknown medical condition. His accusers claim that during his time as a coach, Harris groomed, harassed, and abused them.

One survivor, identified as John Doe to protect his identity, said of the educator that he was given “assignments” that revolved around sex, not athletics. He told KTLA he was given instructions on touching himself, and that Harris wanted physical contact, but he rebuffed the advances. He alleged his abuse mostly occurred through sexually explicit phone conversations with Harris.

However, a lawyer for the victims in a lawsuit filed in 2023 said, “There are other plaintiffs, of course, who had actual sexual contact with George Harris.” The lawsuit seeks to hold Harris accountable for his alleged actions and to shed light on the systemic failures that allowed such abuse to occur unchecked – including questioning what the school knew of the abuse but didn’t take action to prevent further victimization.

These brave individuals have shared stories of inappropriate touching, sexual comments, and other forms of abuse that have left lasting emotional and psychological scars.
