PEORIA, AZ – Police have identified the 23-year-old man killed in a high-speed rollover collision in Peoria on Monday morning.
According to CBS 5, police officers attempted to stop a vehicle that was speeding north on 83rd Avenue near the intersection with Peoria Avenue at about 3 a.m. that morning. However, its driver immediately switched directions in an attempt to evade police. Moments later, the vehicle hit a parked car, causing it to roll several times before catching fire.
A passenger was thrown from the vehicle and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died. He has been identified as 23-year-old Chase Nelson.
The driver had to be freed from the wreckage before being transported to a medical facility with injuries deemed non-life-threatening.
It is unclear if the driver will face any charges at this time. However, investigators believe speed and impairment may have played a role in the fatal crash.
