One Dead Following Sun Tran Bus Collision

TUCSON, AZ ”“ A fatal multi-vehicle collision that occurred near midtown early Sunday morning is under investigation.

KGUN 9 News reported that the collision occurred around 8:45 a.m. when a GMC Sierra traveling south on N Arcadia Avenue ran a stop sign at E Pima Street and collided with a westbound Sun Tran bus. A third driver traveling westbound on Pima Street in a black 2001 Ford Expedition swerved to avoid the wreckage and struck a nearby building.

Tucson fire medics who responded to the scene attempted life-saving measures on the driver of the GMC but were unsuccessful. The 61-year-old driver, identified as Clay M. Starr, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been notified.

Three other individuals were transported to Tucson Medical Center and Saint Joseph’s Hospital with minor injuries, while an unspecified number of people were treated at the scene and released by paramedics.
