According to Fox 10 Phoenix, the driver of a Corvette was traveling at a high rate of speed on 67th Avenue at about 7 p.m. when they lost control near Highland Avenue and slammed into a tree.

Three occupants were extricated from the vehicle and rushed to an area hospital. One of them, a four-year-old child, died there. A man and a woman were treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the child was sitting unrestrained in the woman’s lap when the accident occurred.
