Police: Impairment Led to Early Morning Wrong-Way Crash

PHOENIX, AZ ”“ Authorities now believe that impairment played a factor in a wrong-way crash on I-10 early Monday morning, CBS 5 reports. The incident occurred near 32nd Street at about 4:30 a.m.

Police first noticed the wrong-way driver near Loop 202 in Chandler, 10 miles from the site of the eventual crash. They pursued the 47-year-old woman as she fled northwest toward downtown Phoenix and were eventually able to bring the chase to an end by executing a traffic break. The woman’s car hit the interstate’s center median wall, and she was soon arrested.

The incident caused traffic to back up in the area between 32nd and 24th Streets, but the wreck was cleared later that morning.

It is unclear whether anyone was injured as a result of the crash.
