PHOENIX, AZ – A man slammed into an oncoming vehicle on I-10 early this morning while he was trying to run his girlfriend’s car off the road, killing himself and injuring the driver of the vehicle he hit.
According to a report by CBS 5, the fatal incident occurred on I-10 near 27th Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. A 41-year-old man was attempting to rear-end his girlfriend’s vehicle and force it off the road when his Dodge pickup truck entered the oncoming lanes and collided head-on with a Dodge Durango.
The Durango’s driver was transported to an area hospital in serious condition. The pickup’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman the suspect was chasing was not injured.
The westbound lanes of I-10 were closed as far back as 35th Avenue as police investigated the crash. They reopened later that morning.
