Police Chase Ends in Fatal Crash, Driver Arrested

MESA, AZ – A police chase in Mesa led to a fatal high-speed collision on Main Street on Saturday, AZCentral reports.

The chase began when police attempted to pull over a red Chevrolet Camaro after it left a private drive without stopping completely. Instead, its driver””later identified as 54-year-old Stephen Wilson””sped off and began weaving through traffic.

Wilson ran a red light at Main Street and Dobson Road, where he collided with the driver’s side of a passenger vehicle. Police apprehended Wilson following the collision.

The driver of the vehicle that was struck was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died.

A female passenger in Wilson’s vehicle told police that he threw both a handgun and drugs out the window during the chase. The gun was recovered at a residence a short time later.

Wilson was treated for cuts at a local hospital, which also took blood and urine samples. Police arrested him on a number of charges including manslaughter, unlawful flight from a pursuing law enforcement vehicle, and recklessly endangering another person.
