TUCSON, AZ – A bicyclist has died and a driver is facing murder charges as the result of a hit-and-run crash in Tucson early Tuesday morning.
According to KGUN 9, 56-year-old John Winston Abbey was struck by a Kia within the 4500 block of East Grant Road sometime before 5 a.m.
Abbey was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
The driver of the Kia, 24-year-old Nicolas Daniel Jesse Tope, fled the scene before authorities arrived, but was located a short time later near Columbus Boulevard. He was deemed impaired and was arrested on charges of second-degree murder and leaving the scene of a fatal collision.
