The Falls Church Anglican Sex Abuse Claims – What Happened?

The Falls Church Anglican, also known as The Falls Church, is a well-known congregation in Virginia and has faced serious allegations of sexual abuse involving church leaders.

Survivors have come forward with accounts of abuse involving leaders of the Church’s youth program, revealing a deeply troubling pattern of misconduct and institutional failure. These allegations have led to the filing of lawsuits against The Falls Church Anglican, as survivors seek accountability and justice for the harm they endured.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, an independent investigation commissioned by Falls Church Anglican in Virginia reported that three men accused former minister Jeff Taylor “of sexually abusing them when they were boys under his supervision in the 1990s.”

“More than a dozen others told the investigator Taylor behaved inappropriately and asked them questions related to sex and masturbation,” the outlet noted.

“Taylor, while employed with the Church, engaged in varying levels of conduct that was inappropriate and would fall within the definitions of sexual grooming or sexual abuse,” Edward Isler, an attorney with the IslerDare law firm – which was hired to conduct the investigation – wrote as part of his findings.

That investigation was vast – it included interviews with 82 witnesses, including 34 former participants of a church youth program, 19 parents, and 20 current or former church clergy, staff, or volunteers.

In the investigation report, a young congressional staffer named Jeff Nielsen was also accused of abuse while living in the home of a victim. One incident between the victim and Nielsen that was witnessed by other youth members of the congregation was reported, but because the victim denied being sexually abused by Nielsen, a Fairfax County Police Department investigation into the incident was closed.

If The Falls Church Anglican church leaders failed to take appropriate action to prevent abuse, didn’t change policy to avoid instances of abuse that appeared to be a pattern, ignored warning signs, and in some cases, actively covered up misconduct to protect the church’s reputation, survivors deserve justice for that lack of responsibility and dereliction of duty.
