As always, volunteers from Phillips Law Group have been hard at work helping out in the community in September and October 2024. Community service work continues in earnest at Phillips Law Group, and every week, there seems to be an opportunity to give back, whether it’s just staff members at the firm pitching in to make a difference or members of the public working with us to better our community, too.

Foster Alliance – September 19

Phillips Law Group volunteers headed to The Foster Alliance on September 19 and helped make birthday bags and tags for the bags to give to the kids the organization works with.

“Teen boys were the demand,” Sharon Mews, Community Outreach Assistant for the firm, said of this visit. “So we cranked out probably 30 or more teen boy birthday bags.”

“We decorated them, and then added tags to the handles,” she explained.

Phillips Law Group regularly helps The Foster Alliance with birthday bags, but there are other opportunities for volunteers to lend a hand, too. Feel free to get in touch with our community service team to find out how you can be connected to this wonderful organization!

MANA House – September 20

On September 20, several volunteers from the firm worked with veterans at MANA House. MANA (Marines, Army, Navy, Airforce) House “is a peer-support organization of homeless and formerly homeless veterans,” according to the organization’s website

“We got to serve them lunch, prepared by their kitchen staff,” Sharon revealed. “The veterans were such fun to joke around with, and we all enjoyed serving them.”

During lunch, Rachel, the Volunteer Coordinator for MANA House, and volunteers from Phillips Law Group also coordinated bingo games for the veterans to enjoy. There were even prizes awarded to the winners, including four chances to win a Visa gift card or some fun Phillips Law merchandise.

“One thing I have learned from this wonderful group at MANA, they LOVE their Bingo,” Sharon said.

She also noted that there were a few new faces volunteering at MANA House for this occasion, including one staff member who took some great photos from the event and a staff member from accounting attending for the first time.

“The veterans…are so fun to mingle with,” Sharon said. “I love it when they are close to a ‘bingo,’ and they show me how close they are to winning.”

Feeding Arizona/Cloud Covered Streets – October 2

Phillips Law Group worked with Cloud Covered Streets to host a special Feeding Arizona event on October 2 to honor the birthday of Olga Phillips, the founder of the Phillips Law Foundation. A record 22 individuals participated in the event, 14 of whom were attorneys with Phillips Law Group.

Panera sandwiches, tea, and juice were served to the homeless at this event, and volunteers also helped pass out 36 “blessing bags” with hygiene products for those in need. Bags with items specifically for the pets of the homeless in attendance were given out, too.

“It was a great time, as the attorneys took turns serving those experiencing homelessness,” Sharon said. “Some of our attorneys have participated in previous Feeding Arizona events, but for many, this was a first.”

“Even though it was close to 115 degrees that day, everyone showed up happy and ready to serve their community,” she added.
