Phillips Law Group has a great volunteer partnership with MANA House, an organization of homeless and formerly homeless veterans that provides transitional housing for veterans experiencing homelessness. On May 29, several volunteers helped out at a party for veterans hosted at MANA House, and everyone in attendance had a wonderful time and truly enjoyed each other’s company.

Our firm regularly works with the veterans at MANA House, but on this particular occasion, our volunteers provided pizza for them and hosted bingo games for the individuals at the MANA House facility. Plus, for the first time at MANA House, Phillips Law Group provided haircuts for the veterans served by the organization.

The barber in attendance, Angela, did more than 15 haircuts for the veterans who “absolutely loved her,” according to Sharon Mews, Community Outreach Assistant at the firm. Meanwhile, while Angela stayed busy with haircuts, other volunteers hosted patriotic-themed bingo.

“It was hilarious!” Sharon said. “We had some funny characters who loved to bring up every mistake I made in announcing the numbers.”

A few volunteers also served lunch to the veterans while the bingo games happened, so everyone had an important job during this special event for the MANA House veterans. Some of the prizes for bingo included signed Arizona Cardinals team footballs, as well as tumblers, hats, and t-shirts that were also Cardinals-themed.

“They were so happy to get their prizes,” Sharon revealed. “We let everyone win at least one gift.”

“We Should Never Neglect Those That Served Our Country”

For Sharon, the MANA House party for veterans was a reminder of what an honor it is to serve those who served our country.

“One of the Veterans presented us with a mask he painted and signed the inside of,” she explained. “He said that was his way of saying, ‘Thank you,’ for what we were doing.”

She also noted that for many, the haircuts were the first they had in a long time, and how Phillips Law Group is interested in providing that service at MANA House more in the future.

“There is a real need,” she said. “Most of the veterans at MANA House are unable to afford the luxury of continuous trips to the hairdresser, and so this was a blessing for them.”

“Of course, we are the ones that are blessed to be able to serve our finest,” she added. “It’s truly touching to me to think that we have the privilege of helping them.”

“I still have the mask,” Sharon revealed. “And will keep it as a constant reminder that we should never neglect those that served our country so bravely.”

Phillips Law Group is incredibly proud of the work we do for veterans and service members. From our community service with MANA House to working with those who were impacted by water contamination at Camp Lejeune, their well-being is a cause that is extremely important to our firm.
