Continuing Outreach in the Community at Phillips Law Group

We may be just a few months into 2024, but Phillips Law Group volunteers have already been extremely involved in continuing outreach in the community this year. In March and early April, volunteers with our firm had several chances to give back to those in need.

MANA House St. Patrick’s Day/Easter Celebration

On March 28, Phillips Law Group volunteers returned to MANA House, where we’ve been regularly working with veterans the organization serves. 25 or so veterans participated in a bingo event with 20 prizes – including PLG merchandise, signed Cardinal footballs, and more – all while enjoying fresh tacos prepared on-site for everyone to enjoy.

“We love giving back to those who gave so much to our country. They are so much fun to listen to and I love to hear their stories,” Sharon Mews, Community Outreach Assistant at Phillips Law, said of the opportunity.

Rachel Masch-Perez, Community Engagement Coordinator at Catholic Charities MANA House, said of the visit, “The veterans had so much fun. It is a pleasure working with PLG and it is a blessing to work with individuals that care and dedicate themselves to their community and helping homeless veterans.”

A New Leaf Kid’s Ice Cream Party

A New Leaf is another regular community outreach partner for our firm, and on March 29, several Phillips Law Group volunteers put together an ice cream party for the kids at their Faith House facility. Faith House accommodates children who are victims of domestic violence and allows victims to have emergency housing, followed by transition housing that can last 2 or more years.

Volunteers provided several kinds of ice cream as well as tacos at the event, where Sharon noted, “The workers were extremely accommodating and the kids just loved seeing our new faces.”

Phillips Law volunteers also brought along games and prizes, including a bean bag throw and Velcro dart balls that the kids really enjoyed. Children at the event also received bubble water guns that lit up and made noise! Sharon revealed that even “Elsa” from Frozen showed up and the kids “gravitated to her.”

“We enjoyed our time, and will certainly be back with more games and more prizes,” the Community Outreach Assistant said.

Feeding Arizona/Cloud Covered Streets

Phillips Law Group and Cloud Covered Streets teamed up again for a Feeding Arizona outreach opportunity on April 3. The event, held at New City Church on McDowell and Central Ave in Phoenix, involved haircuts and showers for the homeless, meal distribution, and more.

There were nine volunteers total at the event, which featured two barbers cutting hair as well as the distribution of several boxes of sandwiches to over 30 people. Coffee was provided to the individuals who came to Feeding Arizona, too.

Attorney Sean Davis was on hand at this event, where he served coffee and was also available for legal advice as needed.

“It’s great having an attorney like Sean at the event,” Sharon said. “At every event, without fail, some kind of legal question comes up. The group we serve finds out we work for Phillips Law, and the questions come. Sean does a good job fielding those questions.”

Plus, as has become the norm at these events, volunteers had pet blessing bags for any homeless pets that might need them. One dog named Bullet, a beautiful rescue Boxer mix,   received a blessing bag named in loving memory of one Phillips Law Group staff member’s beloved dog Bart.

There will be many more opportunities for continuing outreach in the community in the near future, and Phillips Law Group could use your help! Please contact us to learn more about how you can get involved today.
