Juan Roque is the Intake Manager and Referral Coordinator at Phillips Law Group.

Here at Phillips Law Group, our staff members are our greatest assets. We love to celebrate our employees and all that they bring to the firm, so we’re starting a new series highlighting some of our team members so you can get to know them and see what makes our PLG team so special.

Starting off, Juan Roque, the Intake Manager and Referral Coordinator at Phillips Law Group, answered some questions about who he is and what makes him tick. Juan is a former All-American college football player at Arizona State University and professional player with the NFL’s Detroit Lions. He was asked to define himself in three words, and answered, “Caring, committed, and crazy!”

Juan was also asked if he could have any superpower, what it would be, and responded, “The power to heal, cure and reverse death. If you saw the movie The Green Mile I want the superpower that John Coffey had.”

He was also questioned about the weirdest snack he likes to eat, and replied, “I love potato chips or pork rinds (chicharrones) drowned in lime juice with Valentina or Tapatio hot sauce.” However, when asked about a meal or food ingredient he couldn’t stand, Juan responded, “Papaya….I hate freaking papaya.”

Metallica’s Biggest Fan

When asked about his favorite musical artist, Juan Roque noted he is, “a Hip Hop guy mostly…some Tupac and Biggie.”

“I also love opera so anything with Luciano Pavarotti and I’m in,” he added, continuing, “Many would be shocked to know this but I am a big-time Metallica fan! I’ve seen them live three times in my life and plan to go again later this year.”

As for a favorite smell, Juan said, “Without a doubt my wife’s Prime Rib at Christmas! There’s something magical about being home with my family and then her making her yearly feast.”

Who Let the Dogs Out?

And when asked about his pets, Juan clearly had a lot to say. “I don’t call them pets,” he began. “I call them my fur babies. I have four and all are rescues.”

He revealed that he has a Chiweenie named Princess Neener, who was rescued in California in 2014. There’s also Charlie, also known as Chawee or Charkles, a male Pug rescued in March 2015.

Then there’s Minnie, a female Pug who was sadly dumped by her owner and joined Juan’s family in July 2015.

Finally, “Our newest addition is King Louis, a Pug puppy we rescued from Barb’s Dog Rescue in Rocky Point,” Juan explained. “We don’t know much about his past but he has a secure and safe future in our pack.”

Giving Back

When asked about his hobbies, Juan was eager to share that he is developing a 501c3 to start a football camp charity.

“For the past three years Jose Flores, who owns BooBar in Rocky Point, Darin Jordan, who is a Super Bowl Champion with the 49ers, and myself have been hosting free football clinics in Rocky Point,” he explained. “This past February we held our first one in Hermosillo which was a huge success.”

“We plan to keep expanding football in Mexico for both boys and girls,” he added, noting that the kids would get help with learning skills and get the chance to learn from professional football players.

“We want to eventually partner with the NFL to really go big with this project,” he noted.

Final Thoughts

Finally, Juan Roque was asked about his favorite time of day, which was revealed to be mornings.

“Getting to work and starting my day brings a sense of peace and accomplishment,” he said. “I’m grateful I have a place to come and contribute to its success and to work for people who see it and recognize it….there is no place else I would rather be.”
