Victim, Driver Identified in Fatal Pedestrian Crash

PHOENIX, AZ – One man was killed and another is facing charges in connection to a fatal pedestrian accident in Phoenix last Saturday night.

According to CBS 5, the accident occurred at about 10 p.m., when a Dodge Challenger traveling 70 mph hit 31-year-old Cesar Santos as he was walking in the area of 75th Avenue and Indian School Road. Santos was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police located the driver involved in the crash and took him into custody. He has been identified as 20-year-old Alejandro Bautista. Investigators believe he was involved in a street race when he struck Santos, who was walking outside of the designated crosswalk at the time.

Bautista is facing a charge of reckless manslaughter.

Early the following morning, a drunk driver struck and injured two police officers who were investigating the scene.
