Three Injured in Street Racing Crash

A crash linked to street racing left three people with non-life-threatening injuries early Monday morning, Aug. 31, 3TV/CBS 5 reported. The two cars involved in the crash were believed to have been racing down Buckeye Road near 35th Avenue. One of the vehicles failed to stop at a light at the intersection, according to Sgt. Mercedes Fortune with the Phoenix Police Department.

In response to the recent surge in street racing, the Glendale Police Department is reactivating its street racing task force in an effort to stop Sunday night street takeovers. The department has been using social media to post mug shots of suspected street racers.

Although this particular accident happened in Phoenix, Glendale police said street racers often jump cities when police are closing in. Glendale police have made 53 arrests and issued 163 citations for street racing over the last five Sundays.
