KOLD reports that the crash took place on I-10, near the exit to Alvernon Way at about 4:50 a.m.

Police say the driver of the stolen vehicle, 43-year-old Carlos Bautista Madril, was likely intoxicated when he crashed head-on into the trooper’s vehicle while driving against traffic.

The trooper suffered only minor injuries in the crash. Madril was taken into custody on a number of unspecified charges. His booking photo suggests that he likely suffered lacerations to his face in the collision.

I-10 was shut down for about two hours while emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
