Driver Hits Patrol Car at Crime Scene, Injuring Officer

crime scene officer putting up police tapePHOENIX, AZ – A Phoenix police officer was injured after a driver crashed into a crime scene early Thursday morning.

Phoenix 3TV/CBS 5 reported that officers were investigating a shooting near 39th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard at about 1 a.m. when a vehicle drove around several police cruisers and entered the crime scene. Officers at the scene ordered the driver to back away from the crime scene. The driver initially appeared to obey and backed away as ordered, but then drove forward again, striking both a patrol vehicle and an officer.

The suspect then fled the scene and has not yet been found. Authorities have not released a description of either the driver or the vehicle.

The injured officer was transported to a nearby hospital and has since been released.
