Fiery Crash on Loop 202 Causes Four Deaths

blurred out police SUV at nightPHOENIX, AZ – Four people were killed and nine were hospitalized following a major collision involving a tanker truck on Loop 202 late Wednesday night.

According to a report by CBS 5, the tanker truck plowed into stopped traffic in the eastbound lanes of the freeway near the 52nd Street overpass just after 10 p.m.

State troopers say the semi, which was hauling a tanker of milk, failed to slow in time for traffic and crashed into the rear of several vehicles. The tanker then broke away from the tractor, crashed through the median and into the westbound lanes, overturned, and caught fire.

In total, eight vehicles were involved in the wreck. Four individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. Nine people, including a 6-year-old girl, were hospitalized with various injuries. A 10th individual was treated and released from the scene.
