Police Arrest Driver After Saturday Crash Kills One

handcuffs on floor of prison cellPHOENIX, AZ – A woman was taken into custody following a fatal collision in west Phoenix on Saturday night, Fox 10 Phoenix reports.

The crash happened sometime before midnight, when a Chevrolet Tahoe slammed into the rear of a Mazda6 on Thomas Road near 72nd Drive.

The force of the initial impact sent the Mazda into the oncoming lane, where it was struck by a Kia. Moments later, a Toyota also became involved in the crash.

The woman behind the wheel of the Kia, 43-year-old Fabiola Vargas-Bracamontes, was pronounced dead at the scene. Both the driver in the Mazda and the driver of the Kia were hospitalized with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

The woman driving the Chevrolet, 29-year-old Ashley Alvidrez, was arrested after showing signs of impairment. She is currently facing charges of aggravated assault, manslaughter, and endangerment.
