Bicyclist Dies After Being Struck by Pickup Truck

TUCSON, AZ – A man has died several days after being struck by a pickup truck while riding his bike in central Tucson last week.

According to KGUN, 49-year-old Henry Varelas died in the hospital Tuesday from injuries sustained in an auto vs. bicycle crash near the intersection of North Balboa Avenue and Blacklidge Drive.

Tucson Police believe Varelas failed to stop at an intersection while riding his motorized bicycle and was struck by a pickup truck. He was transported to Banner University Medical Center where he died this week.

Varelas had not been wearing his helmet at the time of the collision.

Police do not believe the driver involved was intoxicated. No charges are expected to be filed against that individual at this time.
