Driver Seriously Injured Fleeing Scene of Crash

PHOENIX, AZ – A man was seriously injured when he hit a tree and flipped his vehicle while fleeing the scene of an earlier crash, CBS 5 reports. The incident occurred near 51st Avenue and McDowell Road at around 6 p.m. Sunday evening.

Police believe the man had been involved in a three-vehicle collision at 51st Avenue and Thomas Road and that he crashed into the tree near McDowell while attempting to flee. He is currently hospitalized in serious condition.

Photos from the scene suggest the vehicle was either an SUV or a pickup truck with a camper shell attached.

No injuries from the earlier crash have been reported at this time. However, this is an ongoing story and will be updated should more information become available.
