Child Dies From Injuries Sustained in Armored Car Crash

PHOENIX, AZ – An 11-year-old girl who was injured in a collision involving an armored car late last monthdied of her injuries, according to Phoenix police.

AZ Family reports that the collision happened on March 24, when the driver of a sedan traveling west on Thomas Road lost control of his vehicle and entered the eastbound lanes near 87th Avenue, where he collided with a Garda-operated armored car.

The sedan’s 29-year-old driver and his two passengers, an 11-year-old girl and a 5-year-old-girl, became trapped in the vehicle. All three were seriously injured and were transported to area hospitals. The older child died as a result of her injuries four days after the crash.

Police believe the driver may have been intoxicated at the time, and he may face charges pending the results of a criminal investigation.

Both occupants of the armored car remained at the scene and were examined by medical responders, although neither requested transportation to a hospital.
