Seven Arizona Cities Among Fifteen Best for Drivers

busy highwaySeven of the top 20 best cities for drivers are right here in Arizona, according to a new study conducted by WalletHub. The study ranked seven Arizona cities in the top 15 for traffic conditions and infrastructure quality, while two cities, Chandler and Gilbert, made the top 15 for auto safety.

WalletHub researchers measured auto safety by looking at seven different metrics, including the likelihood of an accident in the city versus the national average, the number of motor-vehicle deaths per capita, DUI enforcement and the rate of car thefts.

Traffic Conditions and Infrastructure Quality

The study measured traffic conditions and infrastructure by rating things like the quality of roads and bridges and the average annual hours of traffic delays. The following seven Arizona cities ranked in the top 15 in this category:

Arizona has a younger infrastructure than other cities in the study, which helped some Arizona cities get high ratings for road and bridge quality. The younger infrastructure in cities like Mesa, Gilbert and Chandler helped to offset infrastructure quality in Phoenix, a city in need of new roadways.

WalletHub looked at 100 of the most densely populated cities across the U.S. to determine what cities ranked highest and lowest for driving conditions. Researchers looked at 21 metrics across four categories, including vehicle prices, gasoline prices, auto-maintenance costs and the number of car dealerships per 100,000 residents.
