The family of a 14-year-old Emily Pike, who was found murdered and dismembered off a road east of the Valley on Valentine’s Day, is exploring their legal options after the tragic death of the teenage girl. Emily Pike’s family is “investigating” taking legal action specifically against the Mesa group home Emily ran away from before her body was found.
Emily Pike’s Family May Pursue Lawsuit

Phillips Law Group’s statement:
There has been no civil lawsuit filed on behalf of the family of Emily Pike — yet. The family is currently investigating all potential avenues of recourse, including a civil claim against the group home. However, no lawsuit has been filed as of today. We will turn over every rock to get justice for Emily and her family.
Group Home Took Custody of Emily in 2023
Emily was last seen alive on January 27 near Mesa Drive and McKellips Road.
The San Carlos Apache Reservation tribal Social Services Department took custody of Emily and placed her in the Mesa group home back in July 2023 after she was a victim of an alleged sexual assault on the Reservation where she lived with her mother, according to azcentral.com/The Arizona Republic. She ran away from the group home in late January and was sadly found deceased just weeks later.
According to the Gila County Sheriff’s Office, Emily’s remains were found dismembered in trash bags on February 14. Her remains were “about 100 miles from where she had run away, off U.S. 60 near Globe,” according to Arizona’s Family.
“What Could Have Been Done to Prevent This”
It’s possible that the group home Emily ran away from could be found liable if they did not follow proper protocols and procedures to keep her safe.
“We’ve pulled all of the records from the state…and we’re in the process right now of going through all of the evidence,” Olivia Lemorrocco, a spokesperson for Phillips Law Group, told Arizona’s Family.
“There are so many questions about what could have been done to prevent this.”
