Phillips Law Group Volunteers Give Back in October 2024

Volunteers from Phillips Law Group were extremely busy last month, with several events every week giving them opportunities to participate in community service. Phillips Law Group volunteers give back in some way every month, and there are lots of chances to join them in the future if you are looking for community outreach activities for you and your family to join in on.

Foster Alliance – October 3

In early October, a couple of staff members from the firm volunteered their time to make birthday cards for the kids The Foster Alliance serves. Kids deserve something special every birthday, and this volunteer opportunity guarantees that the children The Foster Alliance works with at the very least get their own personalized card.

NourishPHX – October 9

On October 9, two volunteers from Phillps Law Group dropped off five totes of men’s clothing to NourishPHX

NourishPHX has mentioned that they are always in need of men’s clothing. For some reason, men don’t seem to donate their clothes that much,” Sharon Mews, Community Outreach Assistant for the firm, remarked.

Phillips Law works with NourishPHX on events throughout the year, and we would love to have you join us at the next one!

Maggie’s Place – October 11

At this community service event, volunteers got to continue honing their skills in making birthday cards for kids in need. Maggie’s Place is an organization dedicated to welcoming “pregnant and parenting women and their children into a safe and loving community, providing life-changing programs and ongoing services to help them to become self-sufficient” and the kids the nonprofit serves deserve celebratory birthday cards, too.

Foster Alliance – October 17

At this October 17 event at The Foster Alliance, volunteers sorted clothes by size and did an inventory of donated clothes. Notably, the son of one of the firm’s attorneys volunteered for the very first time at this opportunity for Phillips Law Group volunteers to give back.

“It was so great to have young Andrew helping,” Sharon said. “He was ready to help and he was good at verifying the sizes as he sorted. We all encouraged him to come back and told him how helpful he was…It’s so refreshing to see a kid like Andrew, learning to give back to his community.”

MANA House – October 22

At a very special event with MANA House, volunteers built hygiene kits for the welcome package that each veteran receives upon moving into the residence. The kits consisted of some body wash, a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, razors, shaving cream, and a bar of soap.

“One unique thing about MANA House is that they are the only veterans home to accept veterans that are coming from prison,” Sharon noted. “Similar organizations will not allow ex-prisoners for liability reasons.”

In addition to putting together the welcome kits, volunteers also served lunch to the veterans on October 22.

“This is my favorite part, because I get to interact with the residents, Sharon revealed.

“The more I see of this organization, the more I am impressed with the impact they are making in the community. Veterans should be the most respected and cared-for members of our community, but far too often, the opposite is true,”’ she added. “Sadly, many veterans are neglected, mistreated, and not given the proper medical care that is needed.”

“Thankfully, MANA House is there to help the veterans who are victims of homelessness, medical misfortune, and even ones who have made bad choices in the past.”

Women4Women Tempe Packing Party – October 25

Phillips Law Group regularly hosts “packing parties” to benefit Women4Women Tempe. At this community outreach opportunity, 12 volunteers from the firm assembled over 600 bags of feminine hygiene products for those in need.

“The normal amount of bags that are packed in these packing parties is over 300 and we doubled that amount,” Sharon said. She added that all of the volunteers “were having fun chatting, laughing, and working together for this common goal.”

Maggie’s Place – October 26

The days before Halloween proved to be very busy for Phillips Law Group volunteers looking to give back! On October 26, the firm held a Lunch and Law event and a kid’s carnival at Maggie’s Place.

Attorneys in attendance from the firm provided free legal advice to the mothers served by Maggie’s Place while their kids got to have fun at the carnival with other volunteers. Phillips Law offered a hot dog vendor, face painting, crafts, games, and a clown mime for the children to enjoy.

“The clown was a big hit,” Sharon said. “It truly was a great success! We all had fun and needed that time as a team and with the residents at Maggie’s Place.”

Feeding Arizona/Cloud Covered Streets – October 28

Just two days later, volunteers from the Phillips Law Group team served 80 Panera breakfast sandwiches for those experiencing homelessness at a Feeding Arizona/Cloud Covered Streets event. They also served the individuals juice, offered nail-painting sessions, and more.

“It was just such a great day, as always, so good to know we are making a difference, one event at a time,” Sharon said.

Maggie’s Place Trunk or Treat – October 30

Finally, in celebration of Halloween, Phillips Law Firm brought its customized Tool Box RV to Maggie’s Place for a Trunk or Treat event. Volunteers brought everything from a fog machine, to tealights that were battery operated, to cotton webs, large “ghosts,” candy corn lights, spooky props, and more to make the vehicle perfectly decorated for the occasion.

Volunteers led kids through the “haunted RV” and provided plenty of candy for them to enjoy at this spooky Halloween affair. Not only do families currently being served by Maggie’s Place get to participate in these events, but alumni are invited, too.

“We had the best time interacting with the kids in their costumes,” Sharon commented. “We had a blast!”
