On Friday, February 20, 2026, the Phillips Law Foundation had the honor of serving as the Presenting Sponsor of the 2026 One Injustice Gala benefiting the Arizona Justice Project. It was more than just an event. It was a powerful reminder of why this work matters.
The room was filled with advocates, attorneys, community leaders, and supporters united by one mission: ensuring that no innocent person remains behind bars. The evening raised critical funds to support the life changing work of the Arizona Justice Project, which has now helped free 52 wrongfully convicted individuals in Arizona.
Fifty two lives restored. Fifty two families reunited. And the work continues.
A Mission Rooted in Truth
The Arizona Justice Project exists to investigate and litigate cases of wrongful conviction and manifest injustice. Their work is complex, often difficult, and always deeply human. Each case represents years lost, families separated, and futures interrupted.
As a foundation committed to protecting individuals and standing up for justice, supporting this mission aligns directly with our core values.
A Keynote That Moved the Entire Room
One of the most powerful moments of the evening was hearing from Calvin Duncan, author of The Jailhouse Lawyer.
Wrongfully convicted at just 19 years old and sentenced to life in prison, Calvin spent nearly three decades incarcerated for a crime he did not commit. Instead of giving up, he taught himself the law behind prison walls and became what is known as a jailhouse lawyer, helping others challenge unjust convictions while continuing to fight for his own freedom.
His story was not just about imprisonment. It was about determination. About refusing to let injustice define him. About turning unimaginable hardship into purpose.
Today, he is free and a licensed attorney. His message was clear: hope survives even in the darkest places, but it requires people willing to fight for it.
An Incredible Night Raising Funds for an Important Cause
The 2026 Gala was an incredible night of generosity, inspiration, and impact. Funds raised will directly support ongoing investigations, legal advocacy, and the fight to correct wrongful convictions across Arizona.
The Phillips Law Foundation is proud to stand alongside the Arizona Justice Project in this work and we look forward to continuing to support their mission for years to come.
Justice does not end with a verdict. Sometimes, that is only where the real fight begins.
We are grateful to everyone who attended, supported, donated, and continues to believe that one injustice is one too many.
The work continues, and we are committed to being part of it.
