People who consume alcohol and then decide to climb behind the wheel of a vehicle are not only making a terrible decision, they are putting themselves and anyone else who may be affected by their conduct in a position of danger. Therefore, when things go wrong in these situations, they can quickly go drastically wrong. Tragically, that’s what police think may have occurred with a suspected Peoria DUI accident that took the life of a woman. The driver who is suspected may face charges when toxicology results become available.
According to authorities, this suspected Peoria DUI accident occurred yesterday at approximately 1 p.m. The suspect, 40-year-old James Grunert, was moving at a high rate of speed on 83rd Avenue as he came upon the intersection with Union Hills in a southbound direction. He slammed into a vehicle containing Kathleen Petrotta, 64, of Surprise. The force of impact forced the vehicle into the intersection, and she was badly injured as a result. Rescue workers attempted to save her to no avail, and she succumbed to her injuries.
