- Woman Killed by Driver Fleeing Prior Crash in Tucson Car Accident | Legal News | News Ticker
When drivers are involved in Arizona car accidents, the law requires that they remain on the scene so that authorities can take the proper steps required to clear the area and to complete the necessary work. When drivers flee the scene of an Arizona car accident, it only makes the situation worse. Tragically, a driver fleeing the scene of a Tucson car accident on Tuesday wound up causing another crash soon thereafter, and the second crash that occurred as he was fleeing caused the death of a woman.
According to authorities, this fatal Tucson car accident occurred on Tuesday just after 10 a.m. at the intersection of East Grant Road and North Dodge Boulevard. The driver of a pickup truck had just rear-ended another vehicle, then took off down the road before hitting 44-year-old Marta I. Kellogg in the intersection because he ran a red light. Ms. Kellogg was killed as a result of the second accident, and the unidentified driver was arrested, although no notification of specific charges has been provided.
Arizona Car Accident Statistics
First and foremost, we’d like to offer our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of the woman who was killed. She clearly did nothing wrong and was tragically in the wrong place at the wrong time. We hope justice is served in what is likely to be a criminal prosecution. In addition, this fatal Tucson car accident will now become part of the overall statistics regarding Arizona car accidents. Every year, more than 65,000 people are injured and more than 1,000 people are killed in these occurrences.
Arizona Wrongful Death Lawyers
While it seems all but certain that the driver of the pickup truck will face serious criminal charges, it’s also possible that the family of the woman who was killed could file an Arizona wrongful death claim against the unidentified man. If such a lawsuit was filed and was successful, it could lead to an award of damages that compensates the family for their medical, funeral and burial costs as well as their lost income and loss of companionship.
If you have lost someone you love to a reckless driver, you need to seek the help of Arizona wrongful death lawyers who have been holding those responsible for these tragic losses accountable for many years. Contact Phillips Law Group today to schedule a free initial consultation.
