A Cybertruck recall that impacts more than 2,000 vehicles was issued by Tesla in early November 2024. The recall affects 2,431 units, including specific 2024 Cybertrucks built between November 6, 2023, and July 30, 2024.
Cybertruck Recall: What Happened?
According to the recall notice, “The subject population includes certain Model Year (MY) 2024 Cybertruck vehicles manufactured between November 6, 2023, and July 30, 2024, that are or were equipped with metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFET) in the drive inverter.”
“The affected population includes vehicles equipped with Inverter Part number family 1802305 containing MOSFET part number 1530063-2A-B.”
On the vehicles that are impacted, “a fault in the drive inverter may cause it to stop producing torque.” Without torque, “the driver loses the ability to apply torque to the vehicle using the accelerator pedal resulting in a loss of propulsion, which may increase the risk of a collision.”
This is the sixth Cybertruck recall since it was launched in 2023.
What to Do If Your Cybertruck Was Recalled
After voluntarily recalling affected vehicles, Tesla is sending notices out to Cybertruck owners who are impacted by this recall. The company noted in its recall alert that it is not aware of any collisions, fatalities, or injuries that are or may be related to this problem.
If your Cybertruck is included in this recall, “beginning on or shortly after December 9, 2024, at no charge to the customer, Tesla will replace the recalled drive inverter with a drive inverter equipped with a properly functioning MOSFET component,” the recall revealed.
Unfortunately, Tesla needs to entirely replace the recalled drive inverter, as opposed to an October 2024 recall in which more than 27,000 vehicles were affected when a delay in the rearview camera image that could impact driver visibility was discovered, Tech Crunch reported. In that case, the units only needed an over-the-air update.
The sixth Cybertruck recall this year comes after a December 2023 Tesla recall that involved more than 2 million vehicles. That recall came after an investigation found its autopilot safety system was “not sufficient to prevent driver misuse,” NBC News reported.
