- Renowned Runner Killed in Arizona Bicycle Accident | Legal News | News Ticker
Arizona is home to countless athletes in different disciplines for obvious reasons. One of them is because the climate allows athletes to train outdoors all year, and many runners live and train here for that and other reasons. In addition, many runners will train on a bicycle from time to time as it strengthens muscles not otherwise used. Tragically, a very well known runner was training in that manner when she was hit and killed in an Arizona bicycle accident. Police are continuing to investigate the situation.
According to reports, the runner, Sally Meyerhoff, was riding her bicycle on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. when she encountered the intersection of White and Parker Road and Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway. She entered the intersection and was subsequently hit by a pickup truck. Tragically, this Arizona bicycle accident turned out to be fatal, as Ms. Meyerhoff was killed as a result of the collision. Police have ruled out any involvement of alcohol or other forms of intoxicants by the pickup truck driver, but a cause for the crash has yet to be identified.
Arizona Bicycle Accident Statistics
First and foremost, we’d like to offer our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of the woman who was killed in this tragic accident. Losing a life in such a manner is always difficult for those who were close to the person who was killed. In addition, this Arizona bicycle accident will now become part of the overall statistics regarding crashes of this type state-wide. Every year, almost 2,000 such accidents occur, and they result in more than 1,600 injuries and in more than two fatalities every month.
Arizona Wrongful Death Lawyers
Clearly, more information would be necessary in order for any type of fault to be assigned. If it turns out that the driver of the pickup truck was at fault, then it’s possible that the family of the woman who was killed could file an Arizona wrongful death lawsuit. If such a claim is filed and it’s successful, the family could be awarded damages that compensate them for their medical, funeral and burial expenses as well as their lost income and their loss of companionship. If the pickup truck driver was not at fault, the family could still recover benefits from any existing life insurance policy.
If you have lost someone you love in a crash, you need to seek the help of Arizona wrongful death lawyers who have been holding those responsible for this type of loss accountable for many years. Contact the Phillips Law Group today to schedule a free initial consultation.
