- Police Officer Killed in Arizona Car Accident | Legal News | News Ticker
When people gain experience behind the wheel of a vehicle, they tend to learn how to anticipate common mistakes that other drivers will make and avoid the potential harm that can result. However, there are certain problems arise that can neither be foreseen nor avoided when there is a total lack of time to do so. Tragically, that appears to be what occurred when a police officer was killed on his way to a work meeting in an Arizona car accident on Sunday afternoon. Police have not yet decided whether or not charges will be filed.
According to authorities, this fatal Arizona car accident occurred yesterday at approximately 4 p.m. 26-year-old Aaron Peru, who had only been a member of the San Carlos Police Department for about a month, was driving to a mandatory work meeting on U.S. 70 just west of Safford when a vehicle carrying a trailer that was moving in the other direction had that trailer come loose. It crashed head-on into the officer, and he was killed as a result of the injuries suffered. The name of the other driver was not released.

First and foremost, we’d like to offer our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of the man who was killed. Losing a life at such a young age and in such an avoidable circumstance is truly a tragedy. In addition, this fatal Safford car accident will now become part of the overall statistics regarding Arizona car accidents. Every year, more than 140,000 crashes occur, leading to more than 65,000 injuries and to more than 1,000 fatalities.
Arizona Wrongful Death Lawyers
While more information seems to be forthcoming from investigators, it also seems possible that the driver hauling the trailer was negligent in causing this fatal Arizona car accident. Therefore, it’s also possible for the family of the man who was killed to file an Arizona wrongful death lawsuit against that driver. If such a lawsuit is filed and is successful, it could lead to an award of damages that compensates the family for their medical, funeral and burial costs as well as their lost income and loss of companionship.
If you have lost someone you love to a crash, you need to seek the help of Arizona wrongful death lawyers who have been fighting for the rights of grieving families for many years. Contact Phillips Law Group today to schedule a free initial consultation.
