- More Problems – Another Tylenol Recall Announced | Legal News | News Ticker
For more than a year now, Johnson & Johnson, which is the parent company of McNeil, the manufacturer of over-the-counter medications such as Tylenol, has been mired in a growing controversy surrounding a series of Tylenol recalls that were initiated for various reasons. Now comes word that yet another Tylenol recall has been announced, and the vials of products that are affected have been traced back to the same manufacturing plant that has been closed since May amid serious safety concerns.
Last week, Johnson & Johnson announced a recall of 127,728 bottles of Tylenol 8 Hour caplets 50 count bottles because of that same moldy, musty odor that emanates from the containers. Based on an investigation regarding previous Tylenol recalls, this odor was traced to the presence of a chemical known as 2,4,6-tribromoanisole, or TBA. This chemical is used to treat and preserve wooden pallets that store lots of the product for shipping, and somehow this chemical leaked into containers of different Johnson & Johnson products.
The products at issue with this latest Tylenol recall were manufactured in May of this year, and they are from the lot number of BCM 155. There have been reports of adverse events from consumers, which can involve mild side effects or major health problems, but the company would not reveal the nature of these adverse events reports. Consumers are advised to look at their containers and to stop using these products if they are among those that have been included in this Tylenol recall.
