On April 25th, the Phillips Law Foundation worked with volunteers from Phillips Law Group to\u00a0host a period products \u201cpacking party\u201d<\/a>\u00a0to support women experiencing homelessness or poverty. We regularly work with Women4Women Tempe, a nonprofit that supports the health of all women by providing access to feminine hygiene products for free, on these events because we believe addressing period poverty for this marginalized group is an investment in their future.<\/p>\n

What Is Period Poverty?<\/h2>\n

Period poverty is \u201cinsufficient access to menstrual products<\/a>, education, and sanitation facilities.\u201d Sadly, many women and girls worldwide can\u2019t afford menstrual products or access to water and sanitation facilities to manage their menstrual health. Groups like Women4Women Tempe aim to address that issue for homeless women.<\/p>\n

\u201cLack of access to feminine hygiene products can create health issues, feelings of shame, and even economic insecurity,\u201d the\u00a0nonprofit\u2019s website<\/a>\u00a0notes. \u201cFeminine hygiene products are not covered by SNAP (food stamps) and are often cost-prohibitive for low-income and homeless women.\u201d<\/p>\n

Phillips Law Foundation Packing Party Successes<\/h2>\n

On many occasions in the past, the Foundation and\u00a0firm<\/a>\u00a0have hosted period product packing parties to benefit Women4Women Tempe and the people they help every day. At this April event to mark the occasion of World Women\u2019s Wellness Day, our volunteers prepared\u00a0600 bags\u00a0to give to women in need.\u00a0To date, these events have resulted in\u00a020,0000\u00a0\u201cperiod packs\u201d being donated by our volunteers and distributed by Women4Women Tempe.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a cute event, and it was nice that the media stopped by to shed light on period poverty,\u201d said Christian Conrad, the Social Media Specialist for Phillips Law Group and a volunteer at the event.<\/p>\n

Ilce Mondragon, the Community Outreach Coordinator for the Phillips Law Foundation, highlighted our team\u2019s belief that feminine hygiene products should be tax-free, so no woman has to worry about having them every month.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis kind of outreach matters,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Volunteer With Us<\/h2>\n

Our Foundation plans to work with Women4Women Tempe again for period product \u201cparties\u201d in the future, and we would love to have more volunteers to help even more women and girls in need!<\/p>\n
