Five Dead in NW Maricopa Head-On Collision

MORRISTOWN, AZ – Five people were killed on Friday following a wrong-way crash on US 60 a few miles southeast of Morristown.

FOX 10 reports that the collision happened near milepost 123 at about 10:30 p.m. on Friday, April 2. A white 2005 Nissan Titan had been traveling east in the westbound lanes, without its headlights activated, when it collided with a late-model Chevrolet SUV. The SUV caught fire, killing all four of its occupants.

The victims had not been identified as of Tuesday morning.

The driver of the Nissan also died in the crash. He has been identified as Michael Glen Sytsma, a 37-year-old resident of Cave Creek.

Authorities are conducting a toxicology report to determine whether Sytsma had been intoxicated at the time of the collision.

US 60 was closed overnight as crews investigated and then cleared the scene.
