- Airbag Injury Lawsuits in Arizona
The United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration identified roughly 175 fatalities caused by airbag accidents, while 104 of these fatalities included children. Of course, the first airbag fatality was not recorded until 1994, when they were becoming more common in automobiles.
Essentially, an airbag is a device used to protect individuals while traveling in our vehicles in the case of an automobile accident. There are typically a variety of airbags that deploy in modern day vehicles to protect from all angles and to aid in preventing injuries.
If you or someone you love has been involved in an automobile accident which resulted in an injury caused by an airbag, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses and damages. Our auto accident attorneys believe that if a negligent individual causes an accident, they should be held accountable for all the damages, losses, medical expenses, and pain and suffering they have caused.
Types of Airbags
Of the many different types of airbags, they are typically created from the same sort of materials which include a flexible fabric designed to instantly inflate at the time of an accident. Of course, all airbags were created to cushion the blunt force created when two automobiles collide.
The airbag was first implemented in an automotive vehicle in 1941, when air filled bladders were used as a form of protection. Since this time, there have been countess innovations to these airbags to increase the safety of individuals traveling in vehicles. They were also originally used as a supplement for a seatbelt, until it was recognized that they were more effective when used in unison with the seatbelt.
A few types of airbags include:
Frontal Airbags
Frontal airbags can be found in the steering wheel and on the passenger side of the vehicle. These airbags are released when an impact is sensed by any part of the vehicle. Frontal airbags become popular when Mercedes-Benz introduced them in their vehicles in 1988.
Side Airbags
Side airbags are typically released from above the windows or on each side of the torso. They are used to cushion both the front and rear passengers from a side impact. These airbags can be found between the rear seats and usually inflate between the passengers and doors.
Knee Airbags
Knee airbags were originally introduced by Kia in 1996 to prevent injury to the drivers legs, however, these airbags are not as commonly seen as the other forms, and they can still be found in some vehicles.
Rear Airbags
Rear airbags shield the rear window and deploy from in between the rear passengers. These airbags are intended to prevent the collision of one another traveling in the back seat during an accident.
In most cases, these types of airbags can be found in all modern day vehicles with the intention of keeping us safe during an accident. However, some vehicles have a feature which allows them to turn the airbags off, which can lead to an increased amount of injuries during an accident. It is advised to always wear a seatbelt and allow these features to work in union to keep individuals as safe as possible in the event of a car accident.
Types of Airbag Injuries
As dozens of car accidents occur every day, airbags continue to prevent injuries and save the lives of thousands of individuals each year. In fact, statistics provided by the National Highway Safety Administration show that 28,000 lives were saved from 2009 to 2010 from airbags alone. Of course, with good there is often bad, such as airbag injuries.
Some common airbag injuries include:
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Broken nose
- Concussion
- Injuries to the ears
- Injuries to the eyes
- Lacerations
- Burns
Often times, when an individual is traveling in an upright position and seated properly, they can avoid injuries due to the inflation of an airbag. If you are suffering from any injuries as a result of an accident, it is advised to seek immediate medical attention, not to mention, these documents can be used by attorneys to fight for compensation for your losses and damages resulting from the accident.

It’s an Honor and a Privilege to work for a company that cares about its employees and clients for 12 years. I’ve seen Management go out of their way to help someone whether it’s a personal matter or work related. I am also reminded of many occasions where a Client needed urgent help and we as a Team were able to get the person immediate assistance. At Phillips Law we make that happen through Teamwork and a dedication to our profession. I’ve had numerous jobs in several other fields, those were just jobs. This is a home. Many of us have been here for quite a few years, it feels like one large extended family.
